NGMS Launches the Six Million Pop Tabs Holocaust Remembrance Project

How many of you drink something from a can — maybe soda, juice, or sparkling water — almost every day?

Now think about the little tab on top of that can. It’s tiny, right? Easy to overlook. But what if something so small could represent something enormous — something heartbreaking?

During World War II, a group called the Nazis targeted and murdered six million Jewish people. Six million. That number is so significant, it’s hard even to imagine. Most of us haven’t seen six million of anything in our lives.

That’s why New Glarus Middle School is launching the Six Million Pop Tabs Holocaust Remembrance Project — to help us understand the scale of this tragedy and honor the lives that were lost.

Each pop tab we collect will represent one life lost.  One person. One story. One memory.

With the help of our school, our district, and hopefully the broader community, we aim to collect six million pop tabs. It’s a huge goal, but together, we can do it.

Here’s how you can help:
The next time you open a can — at home, at work, or anywhere — save the tab. Bring them to the middle school and drop them in one of the collection buckets around the building, or bring them to the middle school office.

Tell your family. Tell your friends. Tell your neighbors.  We officially start collecting on Monday, October 27th, and we need everyone to be part of this.

This project isn’t just about pop tabs. It’s about remembering the people who were taken. It’s about standing up against hate and choosing kindness.

Let’s come together as a school, as a district, and as a community to collect six million pop tabs and make sure those lives are never forgotten.
